Summer Haven

Summer Haven Home Need a comfortable basecamp for your outdoor adventures in WNC? Look no further! This home is ideally located just outside the entrance to DuPont State Forest in beautiful Cedar Mountain. You can ride your bike from the home to the trails or go road biking, come home for lunch and head out to fish or float a river in the afternoon. Finish the day with dinner in Brevard (15 minute drive) or come home and cook and enjoy a bonfire.

This non-smoking home with 3 bedrooms accommodates 2-4 people very comfortably and is tucked away in the mountain laurel in a very quiet and private setting. The views from the windows and porches are of wooded mountain landscape. It is a dense forest due to the mountain laurel and rhododendron. Both of these bloom, in May and June respectively as well as other flowering trees and plants. You will feel like you’re miles away from civilization without being isolated at all.

We built this retreat in 2005 to be able to share this amazing location with others who appreciate the mountains and being outdoors. The home is very efficient, well built, and has the modern conveniences you are used to. We provide high speed wireless internet and HD DirecTV and local phone service for keeping you connected to the outside world. And yes, we have the channel that broadcasts The Tour De France. The home is dog-friendly – provided they are house trained and pre-treated for fleas and ticks. Linens and cleaning fees are included in the rental rate; there is an extra fee for dogs. Just bring your personal items and food.

We are avid outdoors people and really want to encourage all hikers, bikers, flyfishermen/women and kayakers to come visit our hometown. Pisgah National Forest isn’t far from Summer Haven and has miles and miles of great trails, more waterfalls and scenic overlooks than you can take in in a lifetime. Transylvania County is truly a gem for those who appreciate clean air, clean water and lots of fun, free outdoor activities. And don’t forget Brevard hosts festivals on all the holidays, our favorite being the White Squirrel Festival on Memorial Day.

The name Summer Haven is a nod to the history of Cedar Mountain. This area has long been a favorite place for “flat landers” living in South Carolina to escape from the heat of summer. Families have come to this high elevation plateau for generations to swim and hike and relax in the cool mountain weather.

This community was only accessible for many years to members of the Stone family. The home is located next door to Faith Memorial Chapel. The Chapel is a beautiful open air structure and is occasionally used for weddings on Saturdays and has services on Sundays, Memorial Day thru Labor Day.

Don’t miss a chance to spend time in one of the most beautiful and historic summer retreat locations in western North Carolina!
